MUSIC EDUCATION
Karen has been a professional public school music educator for more than 30 years. She has taught grades 5-12 orchestra in the Federal Way, Edmonds, and Shoreline School Districts. Additionally, she has served as conductor and cello coach for Cascade and Tacoma Youth Symphony Organizations, and directed the WMEA Junior All-State Orchestra in 2024. She served on the board of Washington Music Education Association for twelve years, including as President. She serves as an orchestra clinician and adjudicator throughout the Puget Sound area, and teachers private lessons in cello and bass.
Danny holds a degree in Music Education from Central Washington University, and is certified to teach music in the school system. He served as a music professor and Band Director at Seattle Pacific University, and professor of tuba and euphonium at Eastern Washington University. Danny has conducted numerous clinics for bands at all levels, from middle school through adult. He maintains a select studio of high school and collegiate students of trombone, euphonium, and tuba.
STRINGS
Karen is proficient in all bowed orchestral instruments, and works with beginning and intermediate orchestra students to improve technique and proficiency. She also works with ambitious cello and bass students to develop a solo repertoire and prepare for auditions and rigorous supplemental experiences.
BRASS
Danny works with advanced high school and collegiate low brass players to bring their technique and musicianship to the next level.
CONDUCTING
Karen and Danny are both professional conductors. Karen has worked with grades 5-12 school and community orchestras, and is in demand as a clinician and adjudicator for string ensembles.
Danny has directed collegiate and adult bands, and has given hundreds of clinics for bands at all levels. His energetic and inspiring approach achieves noticeable results in a short period of time, and leads to long term growth in ensemble musicianship.
FOLK MUSIC
Karen and Danny routinely perform and jam together in the string band tradition. They are available to consult students and groups exploring folk music styles including bluegrass, old time, roots, Americana, singer-songwriter and more.
